English school for adults in the Channel Islands

Our Standard English Courses (15 hours/ week) are personalised to your requirements (general, business, Cambridge certificate, etc.) and are the fastest and most effective way to improve your language skills. You will concentrate on the areas you need and benefit from your teacher’s undivided attention to ensure rapid progress.

Our Intensive option (25 hours/ week) provides you with more in-depth study of English and will allow you to make optimum progress in the shortest possible time. Your lessons will be split between two of our qualified teachers to give you a broader range of learning styles and experience and to really boost your English level.

For both of these courses, you can do either one-to-one (private) or two-to-one (semi-private).

Typical Itinerary

Our programme includes:
3 – 5 hours of lessons a day with one of our experienced and fully qualified teachers, all of whom are native speakers.
Orientation tour of St Peter Port with your teacher or one of our friendly and knowledgeable members of staff to give you the opportunity to chat with our team and discuss how you are settling in.
The option to have one or more of your lessons in a practical setting, such as a visit to a local place of interest with your teacher.

Evening activities such as welcome drink, cinema or dinner with other students  – optional weekend activities.

Lunch with the Director or one of our team members, a chance to practice your English and discuss how your stay is going!

Weekend: Day Trip to Herm or Sark*** (optional)

* First drink is free.
** Food & drink costs not included (expect to pay approximately £25-30).

On behalf of all the team at Channel Islands English Academy, I/ we would personally like to welcome you to our school. We started in 1990 with just a handful of students, and today we now welcome over 250 EFL students every year from every corner of the world. Our adult private and semi-private courses are perfect for those looking to rapidly improve their English. Our qualified EFL teachers are friendly and professional and know how to perfectly tailor lessons based on the needs of a student. Whether you would like to focus on exam skills, pronunciation, or strengthening communicative, our private lessons will be adapted to your requirements.

Outside of lesson time, there are a wide variety of activities to choose from, which will showcase Guernsey’s cultural and history heritage as well as its natural charm.

Guernsey’s location near the French coast makes it a popular choice for French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and Italian learners, who can cross from Cherbourg and St Malo in under 2 hours via ferry. Alternatively, our airport has airlines with routes to and from London Gatwick, Stansted, Heathrow, Jersey, Southampton and more. Guernsey and its cluster of islands boast beautiful beaches and coastal cliffs as well as vast natural habitats, and there is plenty to see and do here in terms of sports and water-based activities, walking routes and nature trails, gastronomical experiences, or cultural enrichment.

Perfectly adapted lessons

I’ve been studying English in the Academy during 2020. I chose the format “private tuition”, the lessons were adapted to what I wanted to master (listening and speaking skills) so you don´t lose your time with things you are not interested on and the teacher couldn’t have been better, always willing to help and choosing actual and interesting topics. I recommend this school without any doubt; surely they have something perfectly adapted to what you need.

The right mixture of learning, sightseeing and enjoyment.

I had my first impression of Guernsey when I saw it on TV - a beautiful island in the Channel with an interesting mix of British and Mediterranean culture. Many years later, I finally decided to combine a holiday with refreshing my English. I booked a one-to-one course at the Academy and spent a lovely week in September with just the right mixture of learning, sightseeing and enjoying everything - sun, nature, food (delicious lunch with Anna Lisa!). There is plenty to see in Guernsey (Occupation Museum, Victor Hugo House ...). My teacher was marvellous and at the end of the week I found out that she was the mother of one of the actors in the TV programme I had seen - that was a funny coincidence! I came back to Guernsey for a second course in September 2018. I miss the island terribly!
